Introverts vs Extroverts
Very interesting article here about whether we give introverts a hard time. The article quite quickly comes to the conclusion that western life is geared towards extroverts. This is easy to see in the jobs market and even more so in our industry. As the article points out, job descriptions that require “upbeat, people person and team players” seem clearly directed at extroverts. The argument continues that society has moved distinctly towards encouraging extroverts because they are considered leadership material; it sees the change in the economy from agriculture to big business as the root of this move. Of course there is, in the end, a sliding scale for personalities. People do not fit neatly into one category or the other. However, if you look at some of the perceived problems with society today – the excesses of celebrity culture, binge drinking, the banking collapse; what do you think the personalities are extroverts or introverts? When people look back nostalgically at days gone by is it an element of introversion they miss? I’ll let you ponder why I used a picture of Tulisa Contostavlos.
