Faster, smarter and more secure; Internet Explorer 8

by graemeb 20. March 2009 15:08

Some industry pundits are calling this the most significant upgrade to Internet Explorer since 1997, when IE4 was released.

Its new features include faster page rendering, built in security, enhancements to privacy such as InPrivate, smart search and intuitive address bar. It doesn’t stop there though, the accelerator feature provides a new way to interact with web content, as does the web slices feature allowing users to be updated when content changes on their favourite sites. The list goes on, so you see why people are calling this a massive leap forward in how we will be interacting with the web in the future.

What does this mean for websites? Well, IE8 certainly looks set to revolutionise the way we can interact with website content and in fact how websites themselves are built.

One last thing, from a developer point of view, the inclusion of a compatibility mode is music to their ears. When IE7 was launched, the number of older websites adversely affected by the new browser was staggering.
