Unsung heroes

The world of advertising is full of change. Here's a short film which documents and salutes a craft which deserves its dues, the art of painting ads large scale on the sides of buildings, which continues today, even in the light of more economic methods such as large format printing. A real skill I think you'll agree.

Advertising? No thanks...

It seems that someone with a slight dislike of outdoor advertising (or the content on show) has taken it upon his or her self to cross out 30 billboards on the highway into Madrid.
Right on, as some anarchic types might say.
More here.

The other day I stumbled across this cartoon, a classic example of how a simple idea can be so easily misunderstood and misinterpreted, and the pitfalls that go hand in hand with misunderstanding and poor interpretation.

Dare to be different

When most people think of graffiti they think of youths running rampage on railway tracks, street artists, mindless scribble and the like. But there are also people out there who show off a clean, simple and disciplined aesthetic which shows how far people have come from simply writing their name on a wall.
One such person is Dare from Basel, Switzerland.

Blackbird flies...

Firefox...Internet Explorer...Netscape...Safari...Google Chrome...Opera.
There's a flavour of web browser for everyone out there, some like the add-ons and themes you get with Firefox, some people prefer to enjoy their web experience through a more stripped down, clutter free browser like Safari. The choice is yours.
But recently another browser has come out on beta which offers something a little different. Blackbird - which at first glance looks just like a re-skinned Firefox, offers tailored content - geared primarily to the African American community. It includes a variety of tweaked tools that search
African American resources, news, and video sites, social bookmarking
and networking tools, webmail integration, and a charity content
channel called "Do Good" that connects users with African
American-focused organisations.
It's still early days and no-one knows as yet how well its doing, but it could well open the door for more tailor-made browsers in the future.
