Studies have been done that actually suggest more often than not, seemingly individual breakthroughs were in fact the direct product of more than one mind.

One person ultimately has to have the new idea (although more might have it simultaneously) but that person would not have got there without the efforts of others- the cerebral equivalent of that phrase ‘on the shoulders of giants’.
