This is bizarre. the Japanese are planning to use a forthcomingh space shuttle mission  to launch a paper plane into space, expecting it to re-enter the Earth's atmosphere intact.

It's made from special heat resistant paper apparently and has messages in 10 languages asking the finder to ring up Jaxa if they happen upon it. Hmmm. Judge for yourself whether this is for real.
