Spitfire Premium Ale
To be honest, when the Spitfire ads appeared over a decade ago there were a few complaints. But they were vastly outnumbered by messages from people telling us how much they loved them. Hugely successful, they helped Spitfire grow from a tiny niche brand into the nation’s favourite bottled ale, playing a key role in broadening off-trade distribution into the grocery multiples.
One of the best loved beer campaigns ever, ‘Downed all over Kent’ resides in Campaign’s Hall of Fame as one of the best posters of the last 50 years. Shepherd Neame, the brand’s owner, has also produced a book about the campaign in response to the huge amount of requests for copied of the advertising.
We recently evolved the campaign to feature the comedians Alexander Armstrong and Ben Miller, reprising their well-known pilot characters from the TV show. This put the brand back on TV, and the idea is very popular in social media too.
